Trinity College Dublin:Located in the heart of the capital city, Trinity is the ideal place to embark upon a course of Irish studies.
Ireland's oldest university, Trinity College was founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1592 and is one of the best known universities in the English speaking world with an academic reputation, which stretches world-wide. Oliver Goldsmith, Edmund Burke, Oscar Wilde, JM Synge, Jonathan Swift and Samuel Beckett are among the many notable graduates whose spirits roam the cobbled courtyards and leafy squares of the college.
The library of Trinity College is the largest research library in Ireland with almost four million volumes. The Old Library houses the richly illuminated Book of Kells among its vast collection of books and manuscripts, music and maps.
Queen's University Belfast:During the week in Belfast, students will be studying at the renowned Queen's University. Queen's has become very well known both nationally and internationally since its founding in 1845. At the local level it plays an important role in many areas of life in the North and in the city of Belfast in particular. Throughout the week, faculty teaches the six modules and guest speakers from Northern Ireland, concentrating on aspects of the course, which relate specifically to Northern Ireland. Described by one former student: "Belfast was seriously the best part of the Summer School. If the program consisted of 5 weeks in Belfast and 1 in Dublin, I probably would have thought twice about coming, but would have enjoyed the program even more." Notable alumni include current president of Ireland, Mary McAleese, and poet Seamus Heaney.
