Work in South Africa Though the country’s history of Apartheid has slowed its development, South Africa is a nation with a lot to offer the adventurous traveller. It’s home to some of Africa’s best national parks and wildlife, a vibrant mix of cultures and languages, vast plains and bustling cities. South Africa is one of the best gateways for those looking to explore Sub-Saharan Africa. And with its friendly people and stunning scenery it’s a fascinating and diverse place to visit in its own right. An African AdventureWith USIT’s Work South Africa program, you’ll be able to fully immerse yourself in South African life. Rather than simply hitting the usual tourist hotspots, you’ll emerge with new insight into this challenging, fascinating country (though you’ll have time for the tourist spots as well!) Most participants find work in areas like catering, office/admin, teaching English, promotional work, or agriculture. But it’s up to you when you work and when you travel, and you’ll have plenty of time to do both. Your work permit is valid for up to twelve months, and allows you to work any kind of job in any part of the country you chose. Wait tables when you’re not catching waves in Durban, South Africa’s surfing hotspot. Or head out of the cities into one of the nine Provinces, for a unique experience off the tourist trail. What to Expect
South Africa is still a developing nation, where third and first-world conditions exist side by side. Poverty, crime and poor public transportation can make life in South Africa difficult at times. Participants shouldn’t think of a working holiday in South Africa as a money making program, but as a unique cultural opportunity. Finding a job will likely take some effort, and wages will be low – though they will be relative to the equally low cost of living. However, if you’re up for the challenge, South Africa will reward you with stunning scenery, a warm and friendly population and a host of unforgettable experiences. Getting Started with SASTS
