Teaching in Surat Thani Thailand

One of the first thing a volunteer will notice at their school, is the very warm welcome they will receive from all of the staff and students. Unlike many of the schools in Surat Thani that have the budget to hire foreign teachers, these schools are poor and can not afford to hire foreign teachers to assist them. The students at these schools therefore, have not had been taught by English speaking foreign teachers. The administrative and teaching staff of these schools are very eager to have foreign volunteers teach their students. The students are excited to have a foreign teacher, with whom they can learn and practice their English. The volunteer will feel at home very quickly, as will become an important member of the teaching staff immediately.Our volunteers teach at Thai public schools located within the city of Surat Thani. Most schools have kindergarten, primary and and early secondary students. The student enrollment at these schools runs from 400 to over 800 students. Volunteers will be able to request which the grade level classes they would like to teach, whether kindergarten, primary, or early secondary. We will attempt to meet the volunteer's grade level requests. If, however, for some reason classrooms are not available to meet the volunteer's request, the next higher or lower classroom may be chosen for the volunteer's teaching assignment.
