Teaching Monks

The temple schools that we work with in Thailand are poorly funded and in desperate need of teachers. No experience needed as you will mostly be assisting their regular teacher with English lessons. The students at the temple schools are there because their parents have died, missing or unable to take care of them. For this reason the student was placed within the system of the temple to be raised. Most of the students are ethnic hill tribe minorities, coming from the mountains or outlying areas (most of which are novice monks)

Details of tasks
Assisting the main teacher however if feel up for the challenge you may teach a class yourself. We will be able to assist you in class preparation, its also important to note that monks have religious rules against singing, clapping, dancing, sports or active games.
A typical day would be as follows:
8:00 Morning Assembly and Prayers
8:30 classes begin
11:10 Lunch/Break
12:10 After lunch Assembly and Prayers
After Assembly and Prayers afternoon classes begin.
4:20 School ends for the day.
A volunteer is free to come and leave the school as they wish. It's recommended to stay at the school during most of the day to get to know the staff and students as well as possible, but if a volunteer is free to leave the school during times when they don't' have classes, if they have something they would like to do off campus.
Throughout the day and during assembly the students, faculty and staff pray and practice meditation. If a volunteer wants to participate in these prayers or meditation they are welcomed to do so. If a volunteer does not want to participate in the prayers they are asked to be respectful towards those who are taking part in the religious activity.
