“Magical” may not be the first word that comes to mind when you think of what it might be like to travel to Colombia, but believe it or not, it’s actually one of the best countries to travel to. Though Colombia has a history of not necessarily being the most tourist friendly, in recent years Colombia’s been making great improvements in providing safety for visitors and locals alike.

New tours offer more travellers a chance to experience the beauty and softer side of Colombia in a way that hasn’t been shown in years. From its colourful buildings and beautiful decorations to its rich cultural past, and deliciously aromatic coffee plantations, Colombia is a place you definitely want to see.

1. Bathe in an active mini volcano

The caldera of the Volcan de Lodo El Totumo has been turned into a naturally heated mud bath you can bathe in, and it’s really awesome. Commonly shortened to ‘El Totumo,’ by locals, this mud bath is located in  Northern Colombia in  Santa Catalina.

2. Visit the Taj Mahal

Wait, I thought that was in India? Not anymore, you can see a mini replica in this epic park located only 30 minutes outside of Bogotá, an easy place to get to if it’s the first stop on your tour. The  Jaime Duque Park offers a variety of replicas of famous world monuments including the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World.

3.  See the rainbow in Guatapé

Considered ” the world’s most colourful town.” Guatapé’s entire town is painted in bright colours and beautiful decorations. The bright colours may seem familiar if you recognize a similar town that underwent its own rainbow coloured transformation in Indonesia.  Definitely, a picture perfect place to see for any Instagram fanatics.

4. Explore a part of the Amazon

You don’t have to travel all the way to Brazil to see the Amazon rainforest. Take a tour through some of the Amazon’s best trails and experience hidden waterfalls and gorgeous riverside paths.

5. Caño Cristales

During a few months of the year, this river located in the province of Meta, turns into brilliant shades of red, yellow, orange and more! You can literally see just about all of the colours of the rainbow in various parts of the river when you make the hike with a certified tour guide.
