  • Day 1Beijing

    Arrive in Beijing at any time.

    Arrival Day and Welcome Meeting

    The adventure begins tonight. Feel free to explore before your welcome meeting, but make sure you’re back in time to meet the group. After introductions, your CEO will review the details of your tour. Please note that normal check-in times apply at our start hotels, but you can usually store your luggage for the day if you arrive early.

  • Day 2Beijing

    Enjoy a guided tour of the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Included is a bicycle tour through the historic Beijing hutongs.

    Discover the fascinating history of the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, then join the throngs of locals and hop on a bike to explore the city's ancient hutongs for a couple of hours.

    Hutong Cycling Tour

    Roll through the ancient alleyways and lanes typical of Beijing. This old area of the city is rapidly diminishing as modernization takes over, but taking to the streets by bike is the perfect way to explore the neighbourhood. See daily life in these old lanes while cycling by.

      Show will begin at 19:30.

      Enjoy an evening of spectacular acrobatics performed by some of China’s most talented performers and athletes. This unforgettable spectacle features Chinese-style tricks, like plate-spinning, contortion, foot-juggling, and a host of circus-style acrobatics, too.

  • Day 3Beijing / Gubeikou

    Leave Beijing behind and transfer out to the Great Wall of China for two days of hiking.

    Leave Beijing behind and head out into the countryside for a trek along the Great Wall. Begin the trek from Mutianyu, heading for the village of Gubeikou. At night, interact with rural farmers over a traditional Chinese meal at a homestay.

    Great Wall Trek

    Walk in the footsteps of ancient soldiers as you get far away from the tourist herd and hike along a lesser known section of the famous Great Wall of China. Gubeikou is one of the sections with best scenery of the Wall, and one of the oldest, being originally built as early as the 6th century. Trek between 6-7 hours along the wall, passing some of the 22 watchtowers that make up this section. On arrival in Jinshanling village for the night, there is an included dinner prepared by host family.

    The homes along the Great Wall have simple but good bathing and shower facilities. Each family can host 4-6 travellers, so our group may be split among 2 or 3 different homes.

  • Day 4Beijing / Luoyang

    Continue to trek along the Great Wall.

    Continue trekking along the Great Wall. Start from Gubeikou and head towards the Jinshanling portion of the Great Wall. The Wall is less crowded at this point and the scenery is spectacular along the way. From Jinshanling, return to Beijing to catch the overnight train to Luoyang.

    Continue trekking along the Great Wall past watchtowers and over crumbling sections before ending the hike in Juankou.

    Experience overnight travel like a local. Sit back and get some well-earned (and likely much-needed) rest en route to your next stop.

    Please note that due to restoration and maintenance of the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall, portions of the trek may be altered.

  • Day 5Luoyang / Song Shan

    Travel by train and arrive late in the morning. Visit UNESCO World Cultural & Natural Heritage site, Shaolin Temple, home of Kung Fu.

    In the morning, arrive by train to Luoyang. From Luoyang, transfer to the holy mountain of Song Shan and spend the night.

    Explore the Shaolin Temple, birth place of China Zen Buddhism and UNESCO World Heritage site. Established in 495 AD, martial arts have been practiced here for 1500 years as a way to practice Zen Buddhism.

    Song Shan is home to the Shaolin Monastery and Temple, the mystical birthplace of the world famous martial art, Kung Fu. First founded in the 5th century, Shaolin has been rebuilt multiple times.

  • Day 6Song Shan

    Spend the day at Song Shan and enjoy a hike in San Dengfeng Village.

    Known as one of the five sacred Daoist Mountains of China, Dengfeng Shan, or Mount Song is a unique rock mountain containing many valleys, caves, pools, waterfalls, and steep cliffs. Recognized as an International Geological Park due to its unique landscape, its peaks can reach up to 1512 meters above sea level. Hike the surrounding areas and get a glimpse into this scared natural area.

  • Day 7Song Shan / Xi’an

    Opt to visit to Longmen Grottoes. Return to Luoyang and travel to Xi'an by train.

    In the morning, opt to visit the Longmen Grottoes. The Longmen Grottoes represents some of China's best Buddhist art. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the carvings display thousands of images of Buddha and his disciples.

    From Longmen, take a high speed train to Xi'an (arriving in the evening), and transfer to the hotel.


    Climb aboard, take a seat, and enjoy the ride.

    • Longmen Grottoes Visit

      Enjoy a visit to this fantastic UNESCO World Heritage Site, with over 100,000 Buddha images carved into a mountain side. Giant panoramas featuring various images of Buddha are flanked by smaller statues that depict him in a variety of poses.

  • Day 8Xi’an

    Explore China's former capital and terminus of the Silk Road. Cycle the ancient city walls and discover the Muslim Quarter.

    Xi'an is one of many cities that was once capital of the great Chinese empire. Gather for an orientation walk exploring the inner city, which is surrounded by 14km (9 mi) of ancient city walls. Weather permitting, visit these walls by bike during our time in Xi'an.

    In the evening, explore the Muslim Quarter, with its Great Mosque, multicultural feel, shopping lanes, and street food stalls selling a large variety of food, including naan, kebabs, and lots of sweets.

    Orientation Walk

    Enjoy a CEO-led orientation walk close to the Xi'an hotel to help you get the lay of the land. Learn where you can find local services (like ATMs and laundromats) and, perhaps, see some city highlights. Every CEO does something slightly different for their orientation walk to show visitors what they like best about the city.

    • Big Goose Pagoda Visit

      Head to the outskirts of the city to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a beautiful, brick Buddhist temple. Check out the Music Fountain Square at the base of the leaning pagoda at night to see an amazing light show.

    • Defachang Dumpling Banquet

      Dumpling banquets are a great way to experience the traditional Northern Chinese cuisine. Have a delicious meal trying all the different dumpling flavours.

  • Day 9Xi’an / Yangshuo

    Fly to Guilin and transfer to Yangshuo.

    Enjoy some free time wandering the city or visit the world famous Terracotta Warriors.

    Departing from Xi'an, take a flight to Guilin (arriving in the morning) and transfer by public bus to the small countryside town of Yangshuo, where the Li River winds its way around thousands of limestone karst mountains.

    Explore the city of Xi'an at leisure, wandering the streets and lanes around the Muslim Quarter.

      Visit the site of the Terracotta Warriors, an archaeological treasure where approximately 8,000 soldiers and hundreds of horses stand on guard in three excavated pits in an on-site museum.

  • Day 10Yangshuo

    Take an orientation walk around Yangshuo. Opt to check out a local cooking school, practice tai chi, or see a light and sound show.

    In the morning, enjoy an orientation walk of Yangshuo. Every turn in the road brings you to another picture-postcard sight. Take a boat ride along the stunning Li River, stop at markets and picturesque villages along the way, or observe one of the local traditions: cormorant fishing.

    Enjoy a leisurely evening. Experience some of Yangshuo's famous nightlife or see the Liu San Jie, a 500 person show by Oscar winning director, Zhang Yi Mou -- he also directed the Beijing Olympic Ceremony.

    This backpacker town is full of things to do and see. An orientation walk will get you situated and help you make the most of your time in this idyllic location.

    Set among the limestone karsts that are common in this part of China, the town of Yangshuo is an idyllic location that offers a variety of activities. Enjoy some free time here to explore.

    • Central Chinese Cooking Class - Yangshuo

      Calling all foodies! Get an inside look at real Chinese food with a tour of the Yangshuo market to learn about the ingredients used in the Yangshuo area. Afterward, learn to cook Chinese food in a traditional Chinese farmhouse in the beautiful countryside just outside Yangshuo. After the cooking class you can sit down and enjoy the delicious dishes you have prepared.

    • Yangshuo Tai Chi Lesson

      Learn how to do Tai Chi, the local exercise regimen. Practice in any park around sunrise, and be sure to have company from locals.

    • Impressions Light Show (Liu San Jie)

      Take in the Light and Sound Show (Liu San Jie), a 1-hr performance that showcases the ethnic diversity of the region and tells the story of 'Third Sister Liu'. See more than 500 singers and dancers, many of whom are local farmers, perform on and around the beautiful Li River against the backdrop of the incredibly illuminated karst mountains. The show usually takes place at 8pm, and is located at the confluence of the Li and Yulong rivers on the outskirts of Yangshuo.

  • Day 11Yangshuo

    Cycle over the flat(ish) landscape past rice paddies with local farmers and water buffalo. Marvel at the limestone karsts and hear the legends of how they came to be.

    Cycle out over the mostly flat fields to get more of a feel for the region. Ride past rice paddies with water buffalo and stare up at towering limestone karsts. En route, enjoy a delicious local lunch with options like the local beer fish, garlic fried water spinach and stuffed aubergine.

    Follow the guide and cycle over the flat(ish) landscape past rice paddies, local farmers, and water buffalo. Marvel at the limestone karsts and hear the legends of how they came to be.

  • Day 12Yangshuo / Longji

    Enjoy village to village trekking along rice terraces.

    Longji is famous for its centuries old rice terraces, often referred to as the Dragon's Backbone, built along forested mountain slopes that seem to poke into the clouds. Check out the unique wooden architecture of the local Zhuang and Yao people.

    Take a local bus out into the countryside to the rural village of Longji.

    Longji Rice Terraces Trek Day 1

    After the drive from Guilin, trek towards Ping'an, where will be based during your time in Longsheng. The village has traditional wooden houses hidden high up in the mountains. From Ping'an there are great opportunities to look out over the rice terraces and the surrounding area.

  • Day 13Longji

    Continue trekking along rice terraces.

    Located 300-1000m above sea level, and nestled amongst the mountains, enjoy a hike on land cultivated over generations, stemming from the Yuan dynasty. Soak in the beautiful views and experience the harmony between humanity and nature.

    Longji Rice Terraces Trek Day 2

    Hike about 18km (4-5 hrs) from Ping'an to Dazhai via Zhongliu and enjoy the views of endless rice paddies and green trees on the hillsides. This hike offers different but equally beautiful views in all seasons. Take a short break in Zhongliu and trek on to Dazhai, where we take a bus back to Ping’an.

  • Day 14Longji / Hong Kong

    Depart the village and take a fast train to Hong Kong.

    Arrive in Hong Kong in the afternoon. Take an orientation walk around the hotel, then explore the city. Opt to walk to the harbour front and take in the astonishing city lights.

    Longji Rice Terraces Trek Day 3

    Leave the village in the morning and head back to Guilin. Take some time to explore the area before departing.
