    The adventure begins tonight. Feel free to explore before your welcome meeting, but make sure you’re back in time to meet the group. After introductions, your CEO will review the details of your tour. Please note that normal check-in times apply at our start hotels, but you can usually store your luggage for the day if you arrive early.

  • Day 2Hong Kong / Yangshuo

    Cross the border to Shenzhen for the fast train to Guilin, then transfer to Yangshuo, nestled amongst the limestone karsts jutting out of the Li River.

    Arrive to Guilin by train and transfer to the nearby village of Yangshuo. One of China's most scenic regions, this beautiful backpacker town is a haven for activities, cultural immersion, and relaxing at cafés.

    The Li River and the limestone karst mountains interspersed with picturesque riverside villages and markets make this area perhaps the best known scenic attraction in the region.

      Watch and learn how to do calligraphy, a traditional form of writing Chinese characters using a brush and ink. See how calligraphers have evolved a richly varied tradition of calligraphic styles, which have been handed down from generation to generation.

    • Impressions Light Show (Liu San Jie)

      Take in the Light and Sound Show (Liu San Jie), a 1-hr performance that showcases the ethnic diversity of the region and tells the story of 'Third Sister Liu'. See more than 500 singers and dancers, many of whom are local farmers, perform on and around the beautiful Li River against the backdrop of the incredibly illuminated karst mountains. The show usually takes place at 8pm, and is located at the confluence of the Li and Yulong rivers on the outskirts of Yangshuo.

    • Yangshuo Guided Cycle Tour

      Follow the guide and cycle over the flat(ish) landscape past rice paddies, local farmers, and water buffalo. Marvel at the limestone karsts and hear the legends of how they came to be.

    • Yangshuo Tai Chi Lesson

      Learn how to do Tai Chi, the local exercise regimen. Practice in any park around sunrise, and be sure to have company from locals.

    • Central Chinese Cooking Class - Yangshuo

      Calling all foodies! Get an inside look at real Chinese food with a tour of the Yangshuo market to learn about the ingredients used in the Yangshuo area. Afterward, learn to cook Chinese food in a traditional Chinese farmhouse in the beautiful countryside just outside Yangshuo. After the cooking class you can sit down and enjoy the delicious dishes you have prepared.

      Enjoy a lesson in basic Mandarin and practice what you've learned with the locals.

  • Day 8Lijiang / Yongsheng County

    Take a bus to Tiger Leaping Gorge and start on the famous hike. The route follows the stunning scenery of the Yangtze as it cuts through the gorge.

    In the heart of Yunnan province, the fast-flowing Yangtze has cut a dramatic gorge so narrow that legend has it a tiger once escaped capture by jumping across it.

    This area rivals the well-known Three Gorges as the most spectacular scenery along the Yangtze River and hiking the route is surely the best way to experience the landscape.

    Tiger Leaping Gorge Trek Day 1

    Enjoy a first day of hard walking on a combination of a new dirt road and smaller farmers' trails. Ascend the '28 bends', where the path twists and turns, climbing steeply, until you come out at the top of the path (not the top of the gorge – that is still several hundred metres above you!). Enjoy the stunning, hard-earned views from the top! You can also see where a tiger reputedly jumped across the gorge, a mythical occurrence from which the gorge derives its name.

    Continue the hike through Tiger Leaping Gorge. After completing the trek, drive back to Lijiang.

    • Black Dragon Pool Park

      Explore the gorgeous Black Dragon Pool, a pond in Jade Spring Park, which is a short walk from the Old Town of Lijiang. Take in a spectacular view of the region’s tallest mountain, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Visit the many temples and pavilions in the park, including the Deyue Lou (Moon Embracing Pavillion), the Longshen Temple, and the Wufeng Tower. Tour the Dongba Culture Research Institute and the Dongba Culture Museum, which help to preserve local culture.

  • Day 11Lijiang / Chengdu

    Fly from Lijiang to the vibrant, modern city of Chengdu. Opt to watch a Sichuan opera.

    Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, is a city of almost 12 million people, which still manages to retain some of its older characteristics and traditions.

    One of these traditions is the Sichuan Opera. The singing, comedy, puppetry, and incredible 'changing faces' act performed as part of the opera are a feast for the eyes.

    Visit the Panda Breeding Centre for an up-close experience with these gentle giants. Later, board an overnight train to Xi'an.

    Visit the popular pandas at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, created to provide an ideal breeding environment for these endangered creatures. Learn about their life cycle and habitat and take memorable photographs of these iconic national treasures. See a number of other rare species, including the little-known red panda. Arrive in the fall for a chance to see tiny newborn pandas.

      Rent a bike and cycle the Xi’an city walls. The walls – built for protection in the Tang Dynasty and expanded in the Ming dynasty –are a great way to absorb local history. Hop off where you like and admire the views as you pedal along the 12m (39 ft) wide wall, which takes about 2 hrs to cycle along.

    • Defachang Dumpling Banquet

      Dumpling banquets are a great way to experience the traditional Northern Chinese cuisine. Have a delicious meal trying all the different dumpling flavours.

    • Tang Dynasty Dinner

      Opt to enjoy a Tang Dynasty dinner this evening, sampling a banquet of local cuisine in the true style of an emperor and empress. Dinner will never be the same again.

    Datong is famous for its temples, pagodas, and other Buddhist structures in the area. The Huayan Monastery and Nine-Dragon Screen are excellent examples of the treasures found in the middle of the city.

  • Day 17Datong

    Set eyes on the gorgeous Hanging Monastery and visit the Yungang Grottoes to see the thousands of Buddha statues. Later, board an overnight train to Beijing.

    The Hanging Monastery (or Hanging Temple) is a wooden structure built into a cliff at the foot of a mountain more than 1,500 years ago. It includes Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian elements.

    Further afield are the Yungang Grottoes; there are currently 53 grottoes with 51,000 statues of the Buddha remaining. Enjoy a guided visit to the grottoes to marvel at them in person. Beyond that is Mt Hengshan, one of the five sacred mountains of China.

    Opt to check out Datong's six remaining pagodas, which gave the city the nickname "City of Pagodas".

    Yungang Grottoes Visit

    Enjoy a guided visit to the Yungang Grottoes, a spectacular sight just 16km (9.9 mi) from the city of Datong. There are currently 53 grottoes with 51,000 statues of the Buddha remaining here.

    Hanging Temple Visit

    Check out the Hanging Monastery located outside Datong and over 1,500 years old -- it is one of China's most famous sights. The building has elements of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. Wooden beams placed in holes chiseled in the cliff face hold up this massive structure, measuring over 50m (164 ft) tall.

    • Cable Car at Great Wall

      The cable car ride is about 5 minutes ride up to tower 14, from where you may walk to the highest point of Mutianyu Great Wall at Tower 23. The walk from ticket check to tower 10 is about 30 minutes.The cable car ride is a good option if you are hoping to save energy to challenge the Tower 23. Return ticket is recommended as you may spend more time on the wall.

      Toboggan Station is at Tower 6. The return ticket include a cable car up to Tower 6 and the Toboggan.

      After your hike on the Great Wall, opt to take a Toboggan ride back down instead of the cable car!
