What's it all about?

On USIT’s Soccer USA programme, you’ll spend up from between 6-12 weeks working as a Soccer coach. This is one of the best ways to experience American culture, develop new skills and make lifelong friends from all over the world. After your coaching contract you will have 30 days to explore the USA. It’s a life-changing summer!

The Soccer Camps

The Camps are located throughout the East & West Coast of USA and vary from those that are in close proximity to major cities to those that are in more rural locations. Coaches will be contracted for between 6-12 weeks and each Soccer camp runs for 5 days Monday-Friday. Soccer coaches will work an average of 30 hours per week which consists of 3 hours of coaching each morning and 3 hours in the afternoon or evening.

The coach will work with a specific club/YMCA/ parks and Recreation Dept or High School for each week of the summer. At the end of each week the coach/group of coaches will then travel to their next location. There could be significant travel between camps however this provides staff with a great way to see the USA.

Each camp is non-residential and will include boys and girls aged anywhere from 3-18 years. The ability ranges from beginners to advanced, both individuals and teams.

The 'Soccer Coach' Role

As a Soccer Coach, your main focus is the kids and ensuring they get the most from their coaching experience in a fun, friendly and safe environment. You will be assigned to a coaching group at the start of each week and this is determined by each coach’s qualifications and experience. Coaches will be expected to conduct a coaching clinic for local parents and coaches during the week together with an end of camp ceremony where parents, campers and coaches take part in an end of camp celebration.

Accommodation will be provided with local host families for each week of the summer and usually families will have one child attending the camp. The host family will also provide you with meals during your stay. You will receive details each week from your local Soccer Camp director with regards to your next location.

Transportation whilst in the USA is provided in the form of rental cars and you will travel with other coaches every Sunday to your next Camp location.

After Camp

All good things must come to an end but the adventure doesn’t have to. Once your contract finishes, you’ll have 30 days to travel and explore the US. Popular post-camp destinations include New York City, Las Vegas and Chicago. Some opt for the freedom of the open road, heading out west to the Grand Canyon & Yosemite National Park. With USIT, you get exclusive discounts on all of our North American adventure tours.

"My summer in America was definitely one of the best experiences of my life!

I was based predominantly in the Texas region and also worked on camps in Louisiana and Oklahoma. Coaching at the soccer camps was extremely enjoyable and rewarding work. A typical day would see us coaching a morning and evening session. I spent my down time getting to know my host family, socialising with the other coaches or simply relaxing by the pool. Throughout the summer I got to experience true ‘Southern Hospitality’ and found each of my host families incredibly welcoming and friendly. Every Sunday I would travel with other coaches to a different city to put on another camp. In this way, working on the Soccer programme was a fantastic way for me to see different parts of the US. It was great to head over to the States with the coaching job already secured and without the worry of searching for a place to live! My personal highlights included seeing the Alamo and strolling along the Riverwalk in San Antonio, sampling the wonderful nightlife in Austin, and spending a weekend in New Orleans. When my coaching contract came to an end, I had the opportunity to travel some more. I spent two weeks on the West Coast where I visited San Francisco, Santa Monica and Las Vegas."

"Summer 2014 was the summer of a lifetime and one of the greatest experiences of my life! I worked as a Soccer Camp Co-ordinator in southern California.

Huntington, Newport and San Diego were just some of the locations I either coached at or had the opportunity to spend numerous days at throughout the summer. My typical day consisted of coaching a group in the sunshine. Every week the coaches and I would travel to a different location to coach. I have some wonderful memories from the camps, which included all the campers dancing and chanting to the Yaya and Kolo Toure song. Living with a host family each week was a fantastic way to meet new people, learn about new cultures and I guess live the “American Dream”. Even though it was sad to leave a host family that I built a good relationship with, I was always buzzin’ for the next location and adventure. In my spare time I made trips with the other coaches to the famous LA hotspots, Disneyland, San Diego Zoo and had the opportunity to watch LA Galaxy in action pitch side and a meet and greet with the players too. Also chilling on the beach after camp wasn’t a bad way to spend the evening. One of my highlights was skydiving over San Diego for July 4th. Coaching in America gave me the chance to see the other side of the world, learn new ways of life, and make lifelong friends. I would encourage anybody who has the opportunity to coach in America, not to think twice about it and grab that opportunity with both hands."
