The management and staff of USIT would like to pay tribute to our original founder by running the Gordon Colleary Memorial Scholarship in his name for a second year.
In 1959, Gordon helped establish ‘Union of Students in Ireland Travel Bureau’, or as it now known USIT. Two years later the first student charter headed for New York and with that the J1 visa phenomenon began. Since then thousands of Irish students have broadened their horizons while travelling the length and breadth of the United States and beyond and they have Gordon to thank!
He is best remembered for his generosity, kindness and his unique vision when it came to student travel.
In view of Gordon’s vision and kindness USIT would like to offer a J1 Scholarship to one deserving student. In order to take part in this competition students must be nominated by someone they know with a story about why they deserve to win this great prize! USIT will pick the winner based on this story.
Last year, Louise Kelly was chosen having been nominated by her close friend John. Here’s their story:
All entries will be considered until the deadline of 5pm on the 18th April 2017 and you can nominate directly on our website here.
We can’t wait to hear about all the amazing students being put forward! Good luck to all!
