Canada Hiring Fair FAQs

Canada Hiring Fair FAQs

So, you’re thinking of making the move to Canada? Not sure how to get started? Well, a great start would be to come to our Canada Hiring Fair. This gives you the chance to interview for a job in Canada right now in Dublin, and get hired on the spot in the same day. This almost never happens in Canada. You could be waiting weeks and weeks to get a job, and then another few to even get paid. So having a pre-arranged job and being able to get paid straight away will be extremely helpful and highly recommended.

I went to Canada myself last year and it took me nearly 3 weeks to get a job and then another 3 to get paid, so that was over 6 weeks without income. You can only imagine how many pot noodles I went through! If you like making life easy for yourself, which let’s be honest, everyone does, you really should come to the Canada Hiring Fair. This way you can get settled into accommodation and have the perfect start to your 2 year journey. You also won’t have to eat pot noodles for breakfast lunch and dinner for approximately 42 days…

The best part about these jobs is that before, on your lunch break and after you’ve finished work you can be skiing and snowboarding down those crisp Canadian mountains in no time. There’s really nothing more enjoyable than hitting those slopes before and after work. This is what you get, and more, from the Canada Hiring Fair. Remember that this is not your only job in Canada, it’s just your first job and you can get it now!

Coming up to this event we’ve been receiving a lot of similar questions so we decided to put them all into one blog post, just for you!

Question 1 ) Where are the jobs located in Canada?

There will be interviews for Whistler British Columbia, these will be on August 7th and 8th.

There will also be interviews for Blue Mountain Resort in Ontario. These interviews will take place on August 15th and 16th.

Question 2 ) When will they start and for how long is the contract?

You will need to be available to start at the end of October/early November and then through until February 2019.

Question 3 ) When is the Hiring Fair and where is it located?

The Hiring Fair is on August 7th, 8th, 15th and 16th. The Fair will take place in our Dublin offices at USIT 19/21 Aston Quay just across from O’Connell Bridge. Interviews will be throughout the day and you will be assigned a time slot after you register.

Question 4) Can I still attend if I have already booked a Visa myself?

Yes, if you already have a visa you can sign up to the Hiring Fair

Question 5 ) Are walk in’s and drop Ins available?

No, you will not be able to see any interviewer if you do not register so it’s vital you register onto the programme as places will fill up very soon. All interviews will be scheduled and no drop-ins will be allowed on the day.

Question 6 ) Can I interview for more than 1 job on the day?

Absolutely, you can interview for as many positions as you would like to.

Question 7) What do I need to do before the Interview day?

You will receive information prior to the interview about the company so you can do some research and have some general info about them before interviewing. You should also jot down
any questions that you wish to ask the interviewer yourself.
We would then advise to go over the usual interview questions and make sure you are comfortable with the interviewing process so as to show your personality. As the jobs are all hospitality positions,
your personality, experience (whether it be life or previous employment) is a major factor in this sector so don’t be afraid to let that shine through and make sure to make eye contact and be
mannerly.

You will also receive info closer to the time about dress code etc for the interviews but as most interviews go, the dress will be smart business.

Question 8) What happens at the end of my contract and what can I do next?

What you do next is entirely up to you. There is potential to review further contracts with the employers after the contract is up but it will be all down to you and the employer. There is no real answer to this question as the potential for further travel or employment is massive. You could do some travelling or even move to another Canadian city to work and live. Cities like Vancouver and Toronto are the most popular but it will all depend on what field of work you are looking for. Therefore, I would advise doing some research on this before making any decisions.

If you want to do any travelling we have some really excellent adventure tour discounts on at the moment. Feel free to ask your agent about travel options with groups or solo travelling, and they can pass some of this info onto you.

Question 9) Will I need insurance for 2 years even if my contract is only for 4 months?

Yes, even though you have been granted the two-year IEC visa for Canada, you will need to have a 2-year work & travel insurance policy upon entry to Canada to get the 2-year visa stamped into
your passport. If you do not, the customs official can refuse you entry to Canada, so it is extremely important. If you were to show up with a 4-month insurance policy, the customs official will more than likely stamp a 4-month visa into your passport and that will be final on your permitted entry, your 2-year visa would become a 4 month visa.

Question 10 ) Can I be in Canada before my work start date?

Of course, once you are ready to start work on the discussed start date with the employer then you can do whatever you want before your arrival (once you are in Dublin for the interviews).

Question 11) Can I attend if I am not using an Irish Passport to enter Canada?

Yes, if you have been granted the IEC Canadian 2 year working holiday visa already or there are allocations available to apply for a visa from your country of citizenship.

Question 12) How do I sign up for the Hiring Fair?

There are two ways to sign up for the hiring fair;
