Why we have cabin fever: 9 reasons to work at camp this summer

Proving it is possible to have the best time whilst doing something parents and teachers would approve of...

No BS. Summer Camp USA is hard work. But it’s also one of the most rewarding jobs you can do, where you’ll learn as much about yourself as you’ll teach to others.

Wake up every day in the great outdoors, spend the day being an inspiration, and bunk down every night knowing your friendship circle has got a little wider and your CV shinier.

Here are 9 reasons why you should de-camp to the States this summer.

1. Low program cost

We have one of the lowest program costs and highest salaries (minimum USD$2,300). Making camp our most affordable way to ‘not stay home’ this summer. Not only is summer camp a 10/10, it's also an incredibly cheap date.

2. Meals and accommodation sorted

On top of your camp salary, all your meals and accommodation are included at camp. Plus, no expensive uniform or commuting costs. That means you can save even more for your post-camp America road trips plus snacks.

3. Camp job included

Before you go, we’ll help hook you up with a 9-12 week summer job (Jun-Sep) working at one of 800+ summer camps in America. We guide you through the application process all the way to securing your spot, supporting you to pick the right camp for you.

4. Do what you love

Turn your passion into a job. Get involved in 200+ activities – tennis, soccer, climbing, watersports, horseriding, art, music, dance and more. Camps offer so many different activities, there's a high chance you'll come away from camp with newfound passions.

5. Get back to nature

A summer of lakeside days and campfire nights, you’ll get a front row seat onto some of America’s greatest scenery. Plus, with days off, you'll get to explore even more of the great outdoors.

6. Make a difference

We know you're inspirational. You know you're inspirational. But there are a bunch of children who don't know. Get the warm and fuzzies from knowing you’re doing a job that matters – directly impacting the lives of children and young people.

7. Grow your skills

A bootcamp for your CV, you’ll come away with a bunkload of leadership skills and ‘tell me about a time when...’ interview examples that future employers will love. Many campers come away from camp with more confidence and more clarity on what they want to do next.

8. Find your people

Discover what the third F in BFF stands for. Living with likeminded 18-30s from all over the world, you’ll genuinely make friends for life at camp. Think of all the spare beds you could crash on during your future trip around the world.

9. Explore America

You’ll typically have 1-2 days off a week. Plus, 30 days before and after camp to let your beach hair down and travel around the States. We'll be on hand if you need any advice on where to go – once we start talking road trips, you can't shut us up.

Do you see why we have cabin fever?! If you're starting to get the sweats after reading this then the only cure is summer at camp. Our camp program now lives on our BUNAC site - same team, same awesome program, new name. Check out our Summer Camp USA program and say 'no' to staying home next summer.
